Hello, fellow creators of Paper Iconic! Are you ready for another exciting project today?

Today I am bringing you a charming little story from South Korea, where a simple papercraft character helped transform the image of an entire city. In Korean folklore, cats have often been seen as artful creatures that can bring misfortune. But Choi Seo Young, a public officer managing Goyang City’s social media accounts, wanted to change that narrative and let the cats shine.

Everything began when an illustrated cat appeared on the official Facebook page of Goyang City. The page had only around two thousand followers at the time, but within just twenty four hours of updating the profile picture, the internet reacted with surprising enthusiasm. The cat’s transformation from a symbol of bad luck into a lovable mascot sparked a wave of curiosity and joy. People from within the city, across the country, and even from around the world started engaging with the feline characters.

This adorable Goyang Cat paper toy was later shared on the official Goyang City Hall blog. The set comes with five expressive faces and a handful of accessories, giving you plenty of ways to bring this playful character to life.
