Hey, creators! Ready to craft something iconic today?
If you’ve been following Paper Iconic, you might remember our previous feature on the Formosan Black Bear papercraft. This time, we’re introducing a fresh take on this beloved bear—one that’s not just decorative but also functional! Say hello to the Bear Tissue Box Low Poly Papercraft, designed by @tricksofpaper6626 from Taiwan.
A Bear With a Purpose
The first time I saw this model, I immediately thought the creator must be from Taiwan. The Formosan Black Bear, with its distinctive V-shaped white chest mark, has long been a symbol of Taiwanese identity (once called Formosa). Sadly, this subspecies of the Asiatic black bear is classified as vulnerable to extinction by the IUCN, a fact that hits you with a bittersweet pang.
I’ve previously showcased another papercraft model of this bear—check it out here: Formosan Black Bear Low Poly Papercraft.
Unique Design and Build Process
Unlike traditional low-poly papercrafts, this template does not include edge IDs. Instead, all pieces are grouped and labeled by page, which increases the total page count to 35. Additionally, you’ll need to print the template on thin white paper and then attach it to colored cardstock, which means you’re free to choose any color, not just black!
This extra step might seem tricky at first, but don’t worry! The assembly video provided by the author will guide you through the process.
Performing 'Surgery' on a Bear for Your Tissues
This papercraft takes the form of a Formosan Black Bear lying flat on its back, tongue sticking out—as if it’s been knocked out cold or was blissfully dazed after indulging in too much honey in the kitchen! The tissue slot runs chest-to-belly – pulling one out feels like you’re sneaking a snack from its gut, equal parts funny and “should I feel bad about this?” The back flips open for a tissue pack reload, easy as pie.
Want a More Casual Look?
If you’d rather have a chill, passed-out bear without the tissue slot, you can modify the build. Simply add glue flaps to the large black lines in the template on pages 13, 15, and 16, effectively sealing the belly. Thanks to its indirect cutting assembly method, this papercraft offers flexibility, letting you tweak the final result to suit your taste.
