In 2023, the Chinese New Year begins on 22 January and will last until 9 February 2024. While most of Asia celebrates the Year of the Rabbit, Vietnam celebrates the Year of the Cat. How the Cat replaced the Rabbit in Vietnam's Chinese zodiac remains unclear.
The Rabbit is the fourth animal in the Chinese zodiac and symbolizes grace, beauty, mercy and good luck. Rabbits are also associated with the moon, because of the mythical Jade Rabbit who lives there.
