Human dreams stem from unfulfilled personal desires, fantasies about the future, and thoughts aimed at satisfying unmet wishes. Dreams can originate from the smallest things, such as when you were a child and dreamed of having many toys, delicious food, or becoming an ideal figure you admired from your favorite movies.
Just like other children, Luffy dreamed of becoming a pirate when he was young. It wasn’t until he met Shanks that he was given a greater dream and ambition: to become the Pirate King. The image of the red-haired man, with a missing left arm, giving the straw hat to a six-year-old boy in Foosha Village has become an iconic and unforgettable moment for every One Piece fan.
That man is Red-Haired Shanks, the captain of the Red Hair Pirates and one of the Four Emperors who rule the seas in the world of One Piece. When he was young, he was an apprentice on the ship of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, before setting out on his own with his pirate crew. Shanks is a tall man with tanned skin. Among the original Four Emperors—Kaido, Whitebeard, Big Mom—he has the smallest build and looks the most like an ordinary person. True to his name, he has a distinctive red hair color. He has three parallel scars running down his left eye, a wound he mentioned to Whitebeard that was inflicted by Blackbeard before the story began. Aside from the scar on his eye, Shanks also lost his left arm to a Sea King while saving Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, when Luffy was a child. Shanks usually appears wearing a black, sleeveless cloak over a simple, loosely buttoned white shirt that exposes part of his chest and upper abs. Shanks is a pacifist who avoids unnecessary fights or trouble, unlike other pirate crews. Even when his honor is insulted, he remains calm. He only steps up to fight when a friend is in danger.
Jinbei is one of the strongest warriors of the Fish-Man race. He was the second captain of the Sun Pirates, continuing their mission of achieving peaceful and equal coexistence between humans and Fish-Men. He later became a member of the Shichibukai, a group of pirates who work for the World Government. This was part of Jinbei's plan to create a connection between humans and Fish-Men specifically and between different races generally—a significant step towards fulfilling his dream.
After Ace was captured, Jinbei was imprisoned in Impel Down for refusing the World Government’s order to fight against Whitebeard, who was protecting Fish-Man Island and had a good relationship with Jinbei. When Luffy’s chaos broke out, Jinbei escaped the world’s strictest prison with Luffy and headed to Marineford to participate in the battle to rescue Ace. He grew closer to Luffy after the battle. When Luffy arrived on Fish-Man Island and saved it, Jinbei decided to join the Straw Hat crew after finishing his business. He eventually became the tenth official member of the Straw Hat Pirates during the battle in Wano Country.
