The Oslabya battleship, also known as the Oslyabya, was a product of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a time when naval powers were racing to build bigger, more powerful warships. Named after the Russian cruiser Oslyabya, it was constructed at a critical juncture in naval history when technological innovations were reshaping the dynamics of naval warfare. The Oslabya was a testament to the ambition and capability of the Russian Empire.

The Oslabya was a member of the Borodino-class of battleships, a group of five vessels designed to serve as the backbone of the Russian Imperial Navy. Commissioned in the early 20th century, these battleships featured a formidable combination of firepower, armor, and speed, making them a force to be reckoned with on the high seas.

The Oslabya was primarily designed for offensive operations, capable of engaging enemy vessels at long range with its heavy main guns. Its four 12-inch guns, arranged in two twin turrets, gave it a formidable punch. Additionally, its secondary armament of twelve 6-inch guns and numerous smaller-caliber guns provided it with a well-rounded defensive capability against smaller vessels and torpedo boats.

The Oslabya battleship was commissioned in 1903 and saw service during the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905), a conflict that would test the mettle of the Russian Navy. In the Battle of Tsushima, one of the pivotal naval engagements of the war, the Oslabya, along with other Russian vessels, faced off against the superior Japanese fleet. Despite a valiant effort, the Russian Navy suffered a devastating defeat, with the Oslabya eventually succumbing to enemy fire and sinking.
