In the enchanting realm of virtual idols, none shines as brilliantly as the iconic Hatsune Miku. Since her debut in 2007, this digital diva has captured the hearts of fans worldwide, transcending borders with her mesmerizing melodies and captivating performances. In 2017, a spectacular concert project known as "MIKU WITH YOU" was launched in China to celebrate Miku's 10th Anniversary.
The year 2020 marked a significant moment in the MIKU WITH YOU series, as it brought forth a "Happy Vacation" theme that whisked fans away to a sun-kissed paradise. Illustrated by the Chinese illustrator Bison 黓鼠, the theme transported concertgoers to a world where Miku and her friends frolic in the waves, embracing the sheer joy of a carefree vacation.
The centerpiece of this remarkable theme was a breathtaking illustration featuring Miku herself. Dressed in a whimsical outfit that fluttered in the salty breeze, Miku stood amidst the azure waves, her twin tails swaying in harmony with the gentle rhythms of the sea. The image captured the essence of a perfect vacation – one filled with happiness, relaxation, and boundless fun.
Adding to the charm of the artwork was a delightful surprise on the left side of the illustration: a little panda, adorably transformed into a mermaid, waved happily from the depths of the ocean. This playful addition not only injected a dose of whimsy but also highlighted the cross-cultural appeal of MIKU WITH YOU, bridging the gap between Miku's Japanese origin and her enthusiastic Chinese fanbase.
MIKU WITH YOU 2020 papercraft is the latest work of ZuoZuo, a big fan of Miku and Vocaloid, who made his own paper models themed around these idols. The paper model version of ZuoZuo is 30 cm tall when completed, excellently reproducing the scene of Miku frolicking in the waves. You will need 19 sheets of paper and 2-sided printing to build this work, some details also need you to adjust yourself along the way.
