The Doberman Pinscher, often simply referred to as the Doberman, is a breed that originated in Germany in the late 19th century. They were developed by a tax collector named Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann, who wanted a loyal and protective dog to accompany him on his rounds. To create this ideal companion, Dobermann crossed several breeds, including the Rottweiler, Greyhound, Weimaraner, and German Pinscher. In the US, this dog is often called by the name Dobie.

Today, the Doberman Pinscher is known for its intelligence, loyalty, and versatility. They have excelled in various roles, from military and police work to search and rescue missions, but they are also cherished as family pets.

Dobermans consistently rank among the most intelligent dog breeds. They are quick learners, making them excellent candidates for obedience training and various canine sports. Despite their imposing appearance, Dobermans are often big softies when it comes to their family. They are known for their gentle and affectionate nature with children and are sometimes referred to as "Velcro dogs" because of their tendency to stick close to their owners.
