In ancient Greece, the owl was the favorite animal of the goddess Athena representing wisdom, reason and justice. But in many other cultures, owls are considered a harbinger of bad omens and impending death. In fact, the owl is a gorgeous, quite diverse, quite expressive species.
Owls are incredibly efficient hunters due to their specialized adaptations. One remarkable feature is their ability to fly silently. The leading edges of their feathers have comb-like structures that break up airflow and reduce turbulence, allowing them to approach their prey silently. This stealthy flight gives owls a significant advantage when hunting at night, as their prey often relies on hearing to detect predators. Additionally, owls have large eyes positioned at the front of their heads, providing them with excellent binocular vision and depth perception, which aids in accurately locating and capturing their prey.
This paper model project was made by Russian artist Methakura for Corvid's Nest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. The finished owl size is 250 x 205 x 188 mm. You will need 6 sheets of paper. If you want to thank the author, please donate any amount to the center to help protect wild birds.
